Which is better: eControl or Electrickit?
There is no honest one-word answer, because the better system depends on how you use your Aga.
If you want the most advanced control package, eControl X-Squared has the edge. It gives you tactile controls, app control, wall control, X-Touch control and Bluetooth control, along with published rapid heat-up times.
If you want the simplest modern interface, ElectricKit Advanced is very attractive. The touchscreen layout, Smart Life app control and integrated timer features make it easy to understand and easy to live with.
For traditional Aga cooks who want modern technology without losing too much of the familiar feel, we would usually lean towards eControl X-Squared.
For customers who want a clean digital interface and an easy touchscreen experience, we would usually lean towards ElectricKit Advanced.
Running Costs: What Should You Expect?
Running costs depend on how often you cook, how long you leave ovens on, which hotplates you use, your electricity tariff and the condition of the cooker before conversion.
For this reason, running costs should always be treated as a guide rather than a fixed promise. Our Aga running cost guide currently lists typical weekly costs of £4 to £9 for eControl Series X-Squared and £6 to £12 for ElectricKit Advanced, based on efficient controlled use. It also lists estimated weekly energy use of 14 to 32 kWh for eControl X-Squared and 21 to 43 kWh for ElectricKit Advanced.
The main saving comes from control. Instead of keeping the whole cooker running continuously, you can heat the ovens and hotplates you need, when you need them.
Can I Buy a Reconditioned Aga Already Converted?
Yes. This is often the cleaner route if your current cooker is in poor condition, if you are planning a kitchen renovation, or if you do not already own an Aga.
A reconditioned Aga can be restored, prepared and supplied with the electric conversion already fitted. This means you are not just paying for the conversion system. You are also getting a cooker that has been rebuilt, checked and prepared before installation.
