Our story began in 1985 when John Wray took over the family farm, dedicating himself to dairy farming to provide for his family and keep the farm thriving.
In 1990, John had a new idea and bought his first Aga which he then reconditioned before selling it, gradually transforming this venture into a successful business. Despite the challenges, John's tenacity over the obstacles brought John Wray Country Stoves into being.
John made sure the firm stayed a family-run business in 2008 when his daughter Katie and son-in-law Stuart joined. Working out of the family farm in Catterick Village, close to the Yorkshire Dales, they kept growing and expanding together until relocating to larger premises in 2016.
John Wray Range Cookers was launched in the summer of 2024 to align Aga, Bertazonni and Smeg range cookers while John Wray Country Stoves website focus on wood burning stoves.
Now, John is enjoying a well-earned retirement while Stuart oversees the company with a committed staff. We are quite proud of our accomplishments and very appreciative of our devoted clients for their help along the road.

The Aga range cooker is a symbol of the warmth of British country lifestyle. Made of cast iron and working on the principle of stored heat, the Aga stove was invented in 1922 by the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Gustaf Dalén. He masterfully combined a heat source, two ovens and two large hotplates into one unit, known as the Aga Range Cooker.
Agas were introduced to the UK in 1929 and gained immense popularity.
Additionally, final finishing touches are crucial to ensure the exterior looks just as refined as the interior. Rest assured, when you come across the terms “reconditioned Aga” or “refurbished Aga,” they mean the same thing, and we also provide re-enameling services to give your appliance a truly polished finish.
Our Re-enameling services are available to ensure that the exterior of your Aga looks as pristine as its interior. Finishing touches are a must to achieve a truly polished appearance. And don’t worry about confusion when you hear “reconditioned Aga” or “refurbished Aga” - they both mean the same thing!

Read more Excellent service and really pleased with our Aga. We had an extremely old oil cooker that was difficult to remove and we really appreciated how hard Stuart and team worked to remove it. The Aga looks great and works perfectly. I have searched high and low for an old photo of how the old cooker looked but am yet to find one….when I eventually do I’ll update this review to show how much better our whole kitchen looks with the Aga.
