We specialise in giving well-loved Agas a fresh start, with full refurbishments, re-enamelling, and expert care from our Yorkshire-based team. Built to last, restored to shine.
Giving Your Aga the Fresh Start It Deserves
Whether your Aga has lost its sparkle or you’ve just inherited a well-used classic in need of attention, our Aga refurbishment service in Yorkshire is designed to bring it back to life. Also known as Aga renovation, this process restores your cooker to a showroom finish, often at a fraction of the cost of buying a new one.
At John Wray Range Cookers, we completely strip the Aga back to bare cast iron, replace worn parts, re-enamel it in your chosen colour, rebuild it with expert care and if you wish, upgrade it with a modern electric Aga conversion using systems like ElectricKit or eControl. It’s the perfect way to preserve the traditional cast-iron beauty of your Aga while gaining improved energy efficiency and day-to-day convenience.
Why Choose Aga Refurbishment?
- It’s Significantly More Affordable: A full refurbishment starts at £6,500, compared to £14,000+ for a new Aga, saving you thousands without compromising on quality. You keep the same cast-iron build, restored to near-new condition, for less than half the cost.
- Keep the Aga That Fits Your Kitchen: Refurbishment allows you to keep your existing Aga’s layout and design, avoiding the disruption of reconfiguring your kitchen or adapting to a different model.
- A More Sustainable Option: By reusing the original cast iron, refurbishment prevents the production of over 400 kg of new material and reduces carbon emissions by nearly half a tonne. It’s a more environmentally responsible choice than buying a new Aga.
- Improved Cooking Performance and Energy Efficiency: During refurbishment, we replace worn insulation, seals, thermostats, and other key components. This helps your Aga retain heat better, use less energy, and deliver more consistent cooking, without changing how it looks or functions.
- Optional Electric Upgrade: You can keep your existing fuel type or upgrade to a modern electric system like ElectricKit or eControl for better control, faster warm-up, and lower energy use. Either way, the cooker is rebuilt to last.
- The Ideal Time to Change the Colour: Refurbishing your Aga gives you the ideal chance to change its appearance. Choose from more than 50 enamel colours to suit your style or complement a new kitchen. The new finish is durable, heat-resistant, and restores your cooker’s original shine.

The Full Aga Refurbishment Process
- Collection & Assessment: We collect your Aga and carry out a full inspection, checking for worn components, structural damage, and necessary upgrades. Based on this, we confirm your project timeline, usually 4 to 8 weeks from collection to return.
- Complete Strip-Down & Shot-Blast: Your Aga is fully dismantled. Internal cast-iron parts, including ovens and hotplates are shot-blasted back to bare metal to remove carbon deposits, enamel residue, and scale, providing a clean foundation for the rebuild.
- Parts Replacement: During refurbishment, we replace or restore all critical components to ensure your Aga performs like new. This includes fitting new back and side panels, lid liners, lid seals, and lid cords. Oven tunnels, door liners, grills, trays, thermometer and thermostat are also renewed where needed. Chrome parts are polished or replaced depending on condition, and simmering and boiling plates are re-machined for proper surface contact. We install fresh insulation and new fastenings throughout, and where necessary, the barrel and ashpit are fully re-engineered to restore structure and performance.
- Colour Choice & Enamel Finish: You can choose from more than 50 enamel colours. We apply vitreous enamel and kiln-cure it to achieve a glossy, resilient and heat-resistant finish.
- Rebuild & In-Home Commissioning: Your Aga is rebuilt in our workshop, then delivered and recommissioned on-site by our team. We handle all final adjustments, including seal fitting, levelling, and fuel or power connection, so it’s ready to use from day one.
- Optional Electric Conversion:
If you choose to modernise your Aga, we can install a fully electric system during final commissioning in your home. Options include ElectricKit Classic, ElectricKit Advanced, eControl Series X, and eControl Series X-Squared, all installed by our team for complete peace of mind.

Restoring the Finish: Aga Re-Enamelling
During a full refurbishment, we completely re-enamel your Aga using high-quality vitreous enamel, fired at extreme temperatures for a flawless, factory-fresh finish. Whether you want to bring back the original colour or choose something totally new, it’s a chance to make your cooker feel like your own all over again.
We offer over 50 colours, including bespoke options and every finish is as durable as it is beautiful. Re-enamelling is included in our full refurbishment service, the final step in a complete Aga renovation that leaves your cooker looking brand new. But it’s also available as a standalone option if your Aga is structurally sound but looking a little tired on the outside.
You can learn more about how the process works on our Aga Re-Enamelling page or head straight to our Aga Re-Enamelling Cost page for detailed pricing.
Looking for an Alternative to Refurbishment? Consider a Fully Reconditioned Aga
While many customers choose to refurbish their existing Aga, it’s not always the right fit, whether due to age, condition, or the need for a quicker solution. That’s why we also offer a range of fully reconditioned Agas for sale, expertly restored by our team here in Yorkshire.
Each one is stripped right back, rebuilt with high-quality components, and re-enamelled in your choice of colour, giving you the look and performance of a new Aga, without the long wait. It’s an ideal option if your current cooker isn’t suitable for refurbishment or if you’re installing an Aga in a new kitchen.
Every reconditioned model can be converted to electric at the point of installation, making it a smart, future-ready alternative. You can explore our latest pricing on our Aga Prices page.
