Aga Relocation in Yorkshire

Relocating an Aga takes specialist skill. At John Wray Range Cookers, we’ve spent over 30 years dismantling, transporting and reinstalling Agas across Yorkshire and beyond. Our Aga Relocation Process

68
  • Assessment & Preparation: We check the Aga model, both sites, access routes and utilities. You’ll be guided on simple prep, such as cooling down the cooker the night before.

  • Careful Disassembly: We disconnect fuel or power and remove parts like doors, lids and flue sections for safe handling.

  • Securing for Transport: Your Aga is wrapped, protected and loaded using purpose-built equipment. Enamel and cast-iron sections are handled with care.

  • Transportation: We use vehicles fitted for heavy appliances, driving cautiously to keep your cooker safe in transit.

  • Reinstallation & Commissioning: On arrival, we reassemble, reconnect and test your Aga. A qualified engineer commissions it so it’s heating correctly before we leave.

  • Optional Upgrades: Many customers combine relocation with Aga refurbishment, re-enamelling or an electric conversion while the cooker is apart, a cost-effective way to refresh and improve performance.

Throughout the process we protect your home as well as your appliance, using covers and care to avoid scuffs or damage. It’s a white-glove service designed to give you complete peace of mind.

Benefits of Professional Aga Relocation

Hiring specialists like John Wray Range Cookers brings real advantages that DIY or general movers can’t match:

Safety First: We use specialist equipment and proven techniques to move your heavy cast-iron cooker without accidents, protecting both your Aga and your home. Tight spaces or awkward terrain are no problem.

Time & Hassle Savings: DIY moves can take days of effort and stress. Our team handles dismantling, transport, and reassembly in a fraction of the time, leaving you free to focus on the rest of your move.

Expertise & Experience: With decades of hands-on Aga knowledge, we anticipate challenges and ensure every component is correctly refitted. That expertise prevents costly mistakes and keeps your cooker performing at its best.

Peace of Mind: We’re fully insured and treat every Aga with respect. Many of us are Aga owners ourselves, so we know their value. Your cooker will arrive safely, reinstalled, and ready to use.

Value-Added Services: A relocation is the perfect time for Aga service and repair, an electric conversion, or re-enamelling. We can carry out upgrades during the move, saving downtime and giving you a refreshed Aga in your new home.

In short: a professional relocation means your Aga is moved safely, efficiently, and with care, an investment in both peace of mind and long-term enjoyment.

Important Considerations When Moving an Aga

Relocating an Aga cooker isn’t as simple as unplugging it and loading it into a van. Here are the key factors we always address (and why it pays to use professionals):

Site Suitability: We check the new location can support the Aga’s weight, confirm there’s a proper base, and ensure ventilation or flue access is in place. Planning ahead avoids issues like weak floors, tight doorways, or missing flue routes.

Fuel & Power Connections: Agas run on gas, oil, or electric. We make sure the right supply is available, with safe piping, wiring, or oil feed. If gas isn’t an option, we can arrange an electric conversion during the move.

Disassembly & Reassembly: Agas are heavy, tightly fitted, and sometimes seized with age. Our team knows each model’s quirks and dismantles and rebuilds safely, avoiding cracks, damage, or poor alignment.

Time & Coordination: We plan the relocation around your move or kitchen works. Most jobs are completed in a day, but we always allow time for safe handling.

Costs & Planning: We provide a clear quote upfront. Distance, access, and extras are factored in, so you can budget confidently. Relocation is almost always more cost-effective than replacing a cherished cooker, though if you are looking for a fresh start, explore our reconditioned Agas as another option.

By covering all these considerations, we ensure your Aga is moved smoothly, safely, and ready to perform as reliably as ever in its new home.

Very friendly, very helpful, and lots of advice. The whole process from visiting the showroom, to the installation of our Electrikit Advanced 2-oven Aga in Northern Counties Cream (our choice - though with so many enamel colours to choose from, well.....!}, went extremely smoothly - and ended with a quick run through of operation, and time for questions and answers.

After decades of using all the different types of Aga, and Rayburn, this new one is a whole different kettle of fish and takes a bit of getting used to. But it is definitely the Aga for today, offering lots of flexibility, yet still the delights of cooking in a proper cast-iron oven. To save fuel, one doesn't have to switch the whole caboodle off for the summer, as one might have done in the past - or, if you go away on holiday, it is no different from switching off your immersion heater.

To increase flexibility of use, one can programme the Aga, just as you might your house central-heating/water heating - plus you can put all this on an App on your 'pnone, so you can switch the Aga on and off etc., remotely. However, with just having moved house and, so far, every day being a whirlwind of seemingly essential jobs, we haven't had time to try out all this modern tech.. But, we will!

Thank you, all at John Wray!

Exceptional - a brilliant company to do business with and surely the best AGA company in the north of England (if not nationally). I cannot recommend Stuart and his team enough - from the moment we contacted John Wray Country Stoves, we felt valued as customers and nothing was too much trouble. All of our questions were answered very knowledgeably and the installation process was 100% stress-free (including the removal of our old AGA). Stuart even made a minor repair to my woodburner, even though he and his colleage (another lovely guy) had worked all day to install the AGA and had a long drive back to North Yorkshire .All in all, the best people we've worked with during our house renovations and highly recommended.

A really super job from John Wray Country Stoves and AEM Range Cooker Services converting our gas Aga to the Electrickit Advanced.

It was fascinating to see. Very excited to get to grips with it. I am enjoying the induction hob and I can now turn the oven on from the train home, using the App.

The team at John Wray were so friendly, helpful and straightforward to deal with from first contact through to installation. They and Alex from AEM were a pleasure to have around on the day of the work. I can highly and whole heartedly recommend them.

Thank you to Stuart, Ben and Louise for a great experience installing my much loved stove. I waited a year for this beauty to be installed when I moved house, and then was let down. But Stuart pulled out all the stops and came to my rescue. Louise was on hand to help and support and Ben cleaned up all the mess and made the whole experience effortless. I'm keen to save up for an aga so any advice or support will be appreciated. A great team and an impeccable service.

Aga Relocation FAQs

How much does it cost to relocate an Aga?

The price depends on the model, size, distance, and site access, plus any extras such as flue work, or upgrades. We provide a clear, itemised quote before work begins, so there are no surprises.

Can you move my Aga to a different house?

Yes. We regularly move Agas between properties across Yorkshire, Cumbria and the North East.

Can you move an Aga within the same kitchen?

Yes. If you’re remodelling, we can safely dismantle and reposition your Aga within the same property, making sure it fits and functions correctly in its new location.

How long does an Aga relocation take?

Most moves are completed in a single day. More complex relocations, involving difficult access, long-distance transport, or optional upgrades like re-enamelling may take longer. We’ll always give you a realistic timeline in advance.

Do I need to prepare the Aga before you arrive?

We’ll guide you through it. Normally, you just need to turn the Aga off the day before so it cools, remove trays or racks, and ensure there’s clear access. We’ll handle everything else.

Can you service my Aga during the move?

Yes. Relocation is the ideal time for an Aga service or repair. While the cooker is apart, we can replace worn parts, refresh insulation, carry out an electric conversion, or complete a full refurbishment.
