  • Long-Term Protection – fresh enamel protects against corrosion, extending the life of your cooker.

  • Cost-effective – significantly cheaper than purchasing a new cooker.

  • Increase Your Home Value – a beautifully re-enamelled Aga boosts the aesthetic and monetary value of your home.

    1. Initial Assessment - we evaluate your Aga's condition and recommend the best approach.

When to Consider Buying a Reconditioned Aga

At John Wray, we want you to get the most value and enjoyment from your Aga. If your existing cooker works well and you’re mainly after a fresh new look, re-enamelling is a fantastic option.

However, if your Aga is quite old, needs significant internal repairs, or you’d simply prefer a fully restored cooker with modern features, without the wait, the best solution may be to buy a reconditioned Aga. This is often the quickest and most cost-effective way to enjoy a cooker that looks and works “like new”, complete with a warranty for peace of mind.

Very friendly, very helpful, and lots of advice. The whole process from visiting the showroom, to the installation of our Electrikit Advanced 2-oven Aga in Northern Counties Cream (our choice - though with so many enamel colours to choose from, well.....!}, went extremely smoothly - and ended with a quick run through of operation, and time for questions and answers.

After decades of using all the different types of Aga, and Rayburn, this new one is a whole different kettle of fish and takes a bit of getting used to. But it is definitely the Aga for today, offering lots of flexibility, yet still the delights of cooking in a proper cast-iron oven. To save fuel, one doesn't have to switch the whole caboodle off for the summer, as one might have done in the past - or, if you go away on holiday, it is no different from switching off your immersion heater.

To increase flexibility of use, one can programme the Aga, just as you might your house central-heating/water heating - plus you can put all this on an App on your 'pnone, so you can switch the Aga on and off etc., remotely. However, with just having moved house and, so far, every day being a whirlwind of seemingly essential jobs, we haven't had time to try out all this modern tech.. But, we will!

Thank you, all at John Wray!

Exceptional - a brilliant company to do business with and surely the best AGA company in the north of England (if not nationally). I cannot recommend Stuart and his team enough - from the moment we contacted John Wray Country Stoves, we felt valued as customers and nothing was too much trouble. All of our questions were answered very knowledgeably and the installation process was 100% stress-free (including the removal of our old AGA). Stuart even made a minor repair to my woodburner, even though he and his colleage (another lovely guy) had worked all day to install the AGA and had a long drive back to North Yorkshire .All in all, the best people we've worked with during our house renovations and highly recommended.

A really super job from John Wray Country Stoves and AEM Range Cooker Services converting our gas Aga to the Electrickit Advanced.

It was fascinating to see. Very excited to get to grips with it. I am enjoying the induction hob and I can now turn the oven on from the train home, using the App.

The team at John Wray were so friendly, helpful and straightforward to deal with from first contact through to installation. They and Alex from AEM were a pleasure to have around on the day of the work. I can highly and whole heartedly recommend them.

Thank you to Stuart, Ben and Louise for a great experience installing my much loved stove. I waited a year for this beauty to be installed when I moved house, and then was let down. But Stuart pulled out all the stops and came to my rescue. Louise was on hand to help and support and Ben cleaned up all the mess and made the whole experience effortless. I'm keen to save up for an aga so any advice or support will be appreciated. A great team and an impeccable service.

Aga Re-Enamelling FAQs

What is Aga re-enamelling and how does it work?

Aga re-enamelling is the professional process of stripping and recoating your Aga cooker’s cast iron parts with fresh vitreous enamel. Old enamel is removed, a new colour is applied, and the parts are kiln-fired for a glossy, hardwearing finish.

Is it worth re enamelling an old Aga?

If your Aga is still working perfectly inside, re-enamelling is absolutely worth it, it dramatically improves the appearance and extends the life of your cooker by protecting the cast iron from rust and wear. However, if your Aga needs internal repairs or shows signs of age, it’s smarter to invest in a full refurbishment instead. Refurbishment includes complete internal restoration and re-enamelling in one go, so you get a cooker that looks and performs like new for many more years. We’ll always advise honestly on the best option for your situation.

Can I change the colour of my Aga during re-enamelling?

Yes, you can select from a wide range of classic and modern Aga enamel colours. Changing colour is a popular option and included in our standard re-enamelling service.

Will re-enamelling affect my Aga’s cooking performance?

No. Aga re-enamelling is strictly a cosmetic restoration and will not affect cooking performance or heat retention.

Can I use my Aga while it’s being re enamelled?

No, your Aga will be dismantled and away from your property during the process. We aim to minimise your downtime and return your cooker as quickly as possible.

Can I just re-enamel the lids or top plate of my Aga?

Yes, we offer partial re-enamelling for just the lids, top plate, or other high-wear areas. This is a popular, more affordable option.

What’s the difference between Aga re-enamelling and refurbishment?

Re-enamelling restores the outer appearance. Refurbishment includes mechanical restoration, new insulation, and may include an Aga electric conversion for a full internal upgrade.

Can I upgrade my Aga to electric during the re-enamelling process?

Yes, it’s the perfect opportunity to fit a modern Aga ElectricKit or Aga eControl conversion for greater efficiency and control.

Do you sell reconditioned or ready-refurbished Agas?

Yes, you can skip the wait and buy a beautiful reconditioned Aga directly from us, fully re-enamelled and ready to install.
