From Oil or Gas to Electric

Changing your Aga to electric makes it cheaper to run, easier to use, and better for the environment - without changing how it looks.

Convert Oil Aga to Electric

Oil Agas are expensive to run and need regular servicing. Going electric means no more oil deliveries, no flue, and lower running costs.

Convert Gas Aga to Electric

Gas Agas still need a flue and use fossil fuels. An electric version gives you cleaner energy and better heat control.

Very friendly, very helpful, and lots of advice. The whole process from visiting the showroom, to the installation of our Electrikit Advanced 2-oven Aga in Northern Counties Cream (our choice - though with so many enamel colours to choose from, well.....!}, went extremely smoothly - and ended with a quick run through of operation, and time for questions and answers. After decades of using all the different types of Aga, and Rayburn, this new one is a whole different kettle of fish and takes a bit of getting used to. But it is definitely the Aga for today, offering lots of flexibility, yet still the delights of cooking in a proper cast-iron oven. To save fuel, one doesn't have to switch the whole caboodle off for the summer, as one might have done in the past - or, if you go away on holiday, it is no different from switching off your immersion heater. To increase flexibility of use, one can programme the Aga, just as you might your house central-heating/water heating - plus you can put all this on an App on your 'pnone, so you can switch the Aga on and off etc., remotely. However, with just having moved house and, so far, every day being a whirlwind of seemingly essential jobs, we haven't had time to try out all this modern tech.. But, we will!Thank you, all at John Wray!

Exceptional - a brilliant company to do business with and surely the best AGA company in the north of England (if not nationally). I cannot recommend Stuart and his team enough - from the moment we contacted John Wray Country Stoves, we felt valued as customers and nothing was too much trouble. All of our questions were answered very knowledgeably and the installation process was 100% stress-free (including the removal of our old AGA). Stuart even made a minor repair to my woodburner, even though he and his colleage (another lovely guy) had worked all day to install the AGA and had a long drive back to North Yorkshire .All in all, the best people we've worked with during our house renovations and highly recommended.

A really super job from John Wray Country Stoves and AEM Range Cooker Services converting our gas Aga to the Electrickit Advanced. It was fascinating to see. Very excited to get to grips with it. I am enjoying the induction hob and I can now turn the oven on from the train home, using the App.The team at John Wray were so friendly, helpful and straightforward to deal with from first contact through to installation. They and Alex from AEM were a pleasure to have around on the day of the work. I can highly and whole heartedly recommend them.

Thank you to Stuart, Ben and Louise for a great experience installing my much loved stove. I waited a year for this beauty to be installed when I moved house, and then was let down. But Stuart pulled out all the stops and came to my rescue. Louise was on hand to help and support and Ben cleaned up all the mess and made the whole experience effortless. I'm keen to save up for an aga so any advice or support will be appreciated. A great team and an impeccable service.

Aga Electric Conversions FAQs

Is it worth converting an Aga to electric?

Converting an Aga to electric is worthwhile primarily to avoid high running costs, as both ElectricKit and eControl conversions offer reduced expenses by allowing users to turn ovens and hotplates off or reduce temperatures when not in use. Electric conversions provide better energy efficiency, greater temperature control, and are considered a good long-term investment that may add value to the property, while still maintaining the traditional Aga cooking experience with modern flexibility.

Do electric Agas use a lot of electricity?

While Aga cookers have a reputation for high energy consumption, modern electric Agas and conversions are designed to be more energy efficient. With features like independently controllable hotplates and ovens, economy settings, and the ability to turn sections off when not needed, users can significantly reduce electricity usage. The hotplates, which can operate on full power or simmer settings, are the main energy consumers, but newer models with fast heat-up times and individual operation capabilities help lower overall running costs.

Can I convert my oil Aga to electric?

Yes, you can convert your oil Aga to electric. The process involves removing the oil burner and fitting electric heating elements with modern controls, offering lower running costs, better temperature control, no need for oil deliveries, and reduced maintenance.

Do you leave an electric Aga switched on all the time?

You can leave it on all the time and enjoy it like a traditional Aga if you want to. Unlike traditional Agas that required constant operation, modern electric Aga conversions offer the flexibility to turn ovens and hotplates off when not needed, such as during hot summer days, overnight, or when away from home. Newer models only take about an hour to fully heat up after being switched off, making continuous operation unnecessary. Some conversions like eControl can even be fitted with timers for scheduled operation or WiFi control for remote management, providing greater energy efficiency and cost savings.
